Wine and Cheese, Please!
This year my sweetie and I decided to do away with the traditional holiday meal and host our friends for a wine and cheese tasting instead. There was one small problem, though—I know very little about wine, and even less about how to pair it with cheese. Fortunately, one day after work I dropped into Fromagerie des Nations and discovered cheese nirvana! They sell EVERYTHING you can imagine! As soon as I walked through the door, I was struck by the size of their cheese counter, which is brimming with a mouthwatering variety of cheeses. There’s also a tantalizing display of chocolates, each more delicious-looking than the last (full disclosure: we ended up serving some for dessert!). The staff was full of helpful tips on which cheeses to pick, and even gave me advice on the wine pairings! Last but not least, there’s a gourmet deli counter just steps away from the cheese, and I dropped by to pick up a few different kinds of charcuterie recommended by the server to round out the meal. In short, it’s all irresistible!
Oh, and on my way out, I ended up splurging on a bottle of raspberry vinaigrette as a treat for myself!
It’s the kind of place you have to see to believe, so visit soon!

If you’re crazy about skiing and snowboarding, you’ll flip for Le Massif de Charlevoix!
I went skiing yesterday for the first time this season, and I had forgotten how much I love it. But was it the skiing…or the ski area? Probably both. Skiing and boarding are terrific ways to enjoy the outdoors, and the warm welcome at Charlevoix makes them all the more fun. Arriving at the top of the mountain can be just as amazing as the trip down. Gliding along—surrounded by the snow and the river— is a whole lot better than freezing on the way up. And the weather yesterday was really something. There was wind at the top—with a little sleet—but spring snow at the base. We stopped once (or twice) on the trail because the river view was so incredible! Le Massif is really a one-of-a-kind area, with a closeness to nature that’s hard to find these days. I would’ve liked to ski the glades, but it was only January 3 and I was still a bit tuckered out from the holidays—I’m determined to give them a try next Saturday!
When you head for the slopes, go green! If you care about the environment, why not take a shuttle or carpool? And don’t forget the designated parking areas for hybrid vehicles.
People are always saying how Quartier DIX30 is THE place for shopping. But you should also know it’s a terrific nightlife destination. Get your party fix at DIX30!
Maude and I had the good fortune to attend the recent official opening of Kabana Supper Club. This is exactly the kind of place DIX30 was missing—the icing on its nightlife cake! Kabana has a fabulous New York–style “exotic ultra-urban” vibe with its soft lighting, sumptuous décor, and attentive service. The menu offers surprising new takes on Italian fare. And true to its name, Kabana transforms into a nightclub as the evening wears on. It’s perfect for rendezvousing with friends or holding your next birthday bash. Treat your eyes and your taste buds, and choose Kabana for your next night out!
Club Radio Lounge is another hip Quartier DIX30 haunt. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because it has a twin on Montréal’s Rue Saint-Laurent. The DIX30 edition boasts multifunctional facilities designed to accommodate everything from corporate events to film shoots and launch parties. The décor is ultra mod with elegant VIP areas, reservation-only mezzanine seating, and a giant catwalk leading to the central bar. Radio Lounge is the place to see and be seen—and celebrities think so, too!
Happy partying!

What’s For Dinner?
Long day of meetings at the ALT? You probably have just one thing on your mind—pick up something quick for dinner and get home to enjoy it. Your virtual concierge has a few ideas to help.
First, head over to Quartier DIX30’s gourmet zone, just beside the SAQ, and whet your appetite with a delicious coffee from Starbucks. Next, visit the Odessa Fish Shop, known for its great selection and its enormous fresh fish and seafood counter. Odessa also offers ready-made and frozen dishes, as well as fresh-made sushi. Recently shoppers were offered a taste of cooked and raw oysters together with a recipe for preparing them quickly at home. What a treat!
Now that your main dish is taken care of, stop by Première MoissonBakery for a baguette and decadent home-made dessert. Feel like fueling up before you hit the road? Grab a table in their bistro section and take five!
Just a few doors further, the Lindt Chocolate Shop awaits, brimming with sweets galore. It’s the perfect place to pick up a last-minute gift...
While you’re at it, why not pop into Comptoir D’ailleurs just to have a look around! Based on an original concept artfully blending flowers and candle lanterns, it is truly one of the most gorgeous and creative shops at Quartier DIX30. Drop in for a visual feast that should tide you over till dinner!
Bon appétit!

When relaxation is king!
What could be better than taking the time to pamper yourself? Who hasn’t dreamed of an entire day dedicated to rest, relaxation and well-being? Let yourself go and leave your everyday worries behind for a few hours to rediscover your inner harmony.
I enjoyed a day of total relaxation in the attentive hands of the SkySpa’s well-being professionals. They won me over from the start. This new complex, which is reminiscent of the famous Nordic baths typical of the Laurentians, blends the same appealing atmosphere of this great region of Québec with the convenience of an urban setting. I had the chance to enjoy many of the spa’s soothing treatments and took full advantage of the Finnish sauna and ice baths. What’s more, as a guest at the ALT Hotel, you get special rates. The SkySpa is the perfect place to regain a little peace in your life. You won’t want to miss it!
